Happy New Year! 8 Things to Do In 2018 To Crush Your Competition

Happy new year! I’m outrageously excited about the new year! Why? Because for the last 3 years, I was running an offline business which meant that my time online was severely limited. So I’m excited to be back online in 2018!

Now let’s talk about you! I’m hoping I can help you have a successful 2018 too!

And to start off, here are 8 things you should do in 2018 to make more money and crush your competitors!

  1. Grow Your Audience (and more than just your email list)

In 2018, there are many more channels to share your story and offers than just with your ’email list’. Don’t get me wrong though, your Email lists are probably still going to be #1 for generating sales – and are not to be ignored by any means – but if you want to get people’s attention and really create a ‘tribe’ , then you need to use multiple channels along side email.

People want and are finding their ‘place’ to belong in Facebook groups and Youtube channels. If you want to standout in your niche as an expert and leader, growing your ‘tribe’ for your brand on multiple platforms is a must.

  2. Feed DAILY content to your tribe.

People are addicted to FB, Youtube, Instagram, email, Pinterest, etc. They check it daily and are looking for your content and other favorites. If you aren’t posting something daily (or almost daily) you could be forgotten as soon as your competitors release their daily content.

  3. Create More than You Consume

It’s too easy to spend (and waste) time looking at Instagram photos and memes on facebook. I am totally guilty of that! We have to be careful and tell ourselves to stop – and get back to work, because soaking up too much content, even if it’s relative to your business, will not take you where you want to go.

YOU have to be the one who is creating the content. One of my goals for 2018 is to create much more than I consume. I aim for a ratio of 80/20. I will focus on creating daily content for my email lists (emails/blogs/videos), and paid products (courses/software/services).

  4. Get Your Product Out There

Don’t wait for your product to be perfect or for your product range (or sales funnel) to be complete. Start with the bare minimum and selling as soon as you can. Work on adding the next product to your funnel asap and get it in there as soon as possible.

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying ‘Ready, Fire, Aim’. I follow this ideology with my business and most things in life too (mainly because I’m terrible at planning – but it works out to be great for me ) and I highly suggest you do too! Perfectionism will kill your business before you get started.

  5. Watch out for Liars, Fakes, Scammers

There will always be fakers, liars and scammers online. And the worst part is, it’s very hard to tell who is BS’ing you and who is telling the truth. My advice is, if there is anyone who seems a little suspicious and what they say sounds ‘too good to be true’, watch them very carefully over a period (weeks or months) before you make any decision to invest with them. You can always tell them by their fruit. If they are walking the walk, and not just talking the talk, then you can assume they’re legit. Do your research though!

  6. Learn a New Skill (or really polish an existing one)

The online business world is requiring more and more specialists in certain areas. I highly suggest you expand your skill-set or really polish one skill that you already have in 2018.

Your skills are your biggest asset – NOT your email list, not your products, not your network. If you have the skills to create products, or write sales letters, or delegate tasks and manage projects, then no matter what happens , if your sites go down, or you lose your lists, you’ll have the skills to rebuild!

  7. Reinvest your profits into Advertising for your business

This is another thorn in my side! If there is something I’ve been terrible at the past few years, it’s reinvesting in my business. I love to buy tools, materials and software that help me create content, products and sites, but when it comes to spending money on advertising, I kind of sweep the idea under the rug. Let’s be honest, setting up advertising campaigns is as about as fun as pulling teeth! But it’s something that all online marketers need to focus on to have a business that grows at a constant rate, and I recommend you do it too.

For the MMO niche, I am going to be looking at Solo ads, banner ads, and PPC ads. I have done it in the past, but usually just in spurts. My advice to you if you’re just starting to run paid ads, is to start small! $50 to $100 will get you a decent amount of traffic.

  8. Spy On Your Competitors and Copy What’s Working

It’s pretty easy to spot the guys and girls who are absolutely killing it online. The ones who are ‘walking the walk’. If that’s the kind of success that you want, then you’ll need to spy on them and reverse engineer what they’re doing. Of course, you can’t flat out copy their websites and blog content. You should put your own twist and personality on it.

The problem is, that there is only so much that you can see from the surface. Most 7 figure earners out there have many underlying systems that makes them earn that much. They have staff, outsource teams, systems in place that do a lot of the work in the background. If there is a chance to join a mastermind group or coaching program, then I highly recommend it. No matter where you are, there is always much more that you can learn!

If you can pull off these 8 things in 2018, I’m sure you’ll be smoking hot as you go to enter 2019!

“I’m A Nobody, Why Would Anyone Buy My Products!?”

I remember having these exact thoughts when I first started out….

“What makes ME qualified to sell to anyone?”

“Who on earth would ever buy from me? “

Maybe you’re having these same feeling too if you’re just getting started with your internet business. It’s normal to feel this way, but that’s not to say you should.

sellMorestuff_stuartstirling

If you have these feelings and thoughts, you need to try to quickly overcome them. In other words “Get over it!” Those feelings are just going to slow you down. You can overcome them by understanding one main concept.

You don’t need to be the smartest, most successful, experienced person in your niche to start selling, or start a business. You just need to be brave and put yourself (and your products) out there!

Like the old saying goes, “Ready, Fire, Aim!” Just shoot it out and re-asses later. In other words, forget about perfection!

You don’t need to have the most amazing product on the market right from day one to start selling it. Some people are terrified to sell a product because they think the customer will hate it and end up failing.

If that’s the case, sell it anyway and ask the customer what they thought. If it is rubbish, they’ll tell you and you may have to give a refund. But they might love the product. Either way, you will gain valuable feedback.

The faster you fail, the faster you can learn from it and improve.

Every time you fail, the closer you are to succeeding.

I love basketball, the NBA in particular. But not everyone who plays is an All star. Not every player is as dominant and athletic as Lebron James. Not everyone can jump as high hand dunk it as hard as Blake Griffin. There are hundreds of players ranging from mediocre to skilled to exceptional.

But they ALL play the game. They’re all training and ‘selling’ themselves on the court to the fans and to their coaches and team mates.

So take this example or think of any sport or you like and you’ll see it’s made up of a broad array of ‘players’ at different levels.

Business is the same. You just have to decide to play the game. Yes, you’ll start out at the bottom. Yes, you may feel inadequate at first. You may have to “fake it till you make it” a little. I confess, I did. (the only real person you really need to convince though, is you. remember that.)

Now if you’re going the personality marketing route, then there is a certain level of expertise you need to obtain if you want people to buy from you.

You do actually need to know what you’re talking about before you start going public with your content in blog or videos, or whatever. And your product actually needs to do what is says on the box. (i.e. help your customer. )

But the get to that point is easy. You simply study your niche. Study your target market. Observe other marketers. Hang out in forums and join the conversations. Study the niche topics and become an expert in it. It doesn’t take long. Another interesting fact is that every successful marketer or business owner you see is still learning. They’re still honing their skills.

You must too, otherwise you’ll be left in your competitor’s dust. If you want your slice of the customers, you must compete with showing them YOU also know what you’re talking about and your products ALSO solve their problems.

Don’t expect success to come overnight either. Lebron James didn’t get the MVP award his first year. He trains hard to improve. You should too. But you can still be in the game while you’re working on it.

So if you’re reading this and are still on the fence about putting your product or service out there, just do it. Be brave and let it fly. See what happens. What’s the worst that could happen?

How To Start An Affiliate Marketing Business In One Day

… and I should add, even if it’s your first day online, and only have $50 or less to spend.

And I’m not talking about getting in a “home business” program. They’re fine if you want to get started in the “home business” niche…but…

I want to give you a formula you can use for ANY niche you decide to enter into.

Follow the steps below and you’ll feel like this guy at the end of the day…

IRock-StuartStirling

I was recently asked by a customers who is trying to promote a weight loss product – acai berries to be exact.

She asked me the best ways to promote her affiliate link without buying ads, or without using article marketing because article directories won’t allow any articles that promote or talk about acai berries!

I gave my advice in a couple of steps….

1.  If article marketing is out, get traffic with Youtube videos.  Create videos with helpful content about acai berries and weight loss and upload them, with your titles containing keywords.

2. Put a link in the description to a lead generation page (squeeze page). When they land on your squeeze page, offer them a free “giveaway” product if they optin to your email list (autoresponder). For example, a free teaser report about the benefits or dangers of acai berries.

The other option, and this is much more effective for cold traffic (i.e. traffic from Youtube) is to make the offer on your squeeze page “blind copy”.

Blind copy means you don’t actually let the reader know that you’re talking about acai berries – You hide the fact that it’s anything to do with acai berries and just refer to it as a “weight loss super food”, or something along those lines. The main reason for using blind copy is to muster up some curiosity in their mind so the reader can’t help but to opt-in in to learn more.

3. Another way to drive traffic for free would be by posting in weight loss or mummy, chat forums and social media sites (groups).. and putting your link in your forum signature file! Again you want to send people to your squeeze page so you build your email list. Your email list is your most important asset as an internet marketer. With a list, you can follow-up with them at any time and use the emails to build that all-important relationship.

So that’s the ‘what to do’….

The ‘how to do it’ is explained in this next part.

This involves actually going out and doing work. However, none of these tasks are overly technical or require a phd in computer science. Admittedly, these are the bare essentials, but they’re enough to get you started running a proper, reliable affiliate marketing business.

  1. Write a 5~10 page report in Word about acai berries and how they help you burn fat.
  2. Turn your report into a PDF using Doc2pdf.net
  3. Get an ecover for it on fiverr.com
  4. Use a site like 1MinuteSites.com to create your landing pages (squeeze pages etc),
  5. Get an autoresponder (email management software) like Aweber or Pure Leverage so you can start your list building
  6. Focus on the traffic methods I explained above to promote and give away the free report.

That there is a quick outline of a basic, but complete affiliate marketing business model. You could literally get this kind of business up and running in one day and for less than $50.

Internet marketing doesn’t need to be complex. You just need the right pieces in place. I’ve listed the bare essentials of how to set up a list building system and two examples of how to promote  for free, apart from article marketing.

Santa’s Top List Building Tips

Merry Christmas, for a couple of days ago!

I love this time of year, mainly for the giving and receiving of presents and being able to spend a happy time chilling with my family.

As you probably know, Santa Claus has perhaps the biggest “list” this side of the moon!

Santa

He’s actually an amazing direct marketer.

Santa’s got a great understanding of his customers, he knows every boy’s and girl’s innermost wishes, he takes their orders and delivers their products on time.

But the most important part is that the products are exactly what the customers (kids) want – so of course they are super happy.

That would sure make a for low return rate ; )

Ok, I admit, I don’t know all of Santa’s marketing secrets, but let’s just take a look to see if we can steal any marketing tips from Santa

Since I am an avid Email marketer and have created several products and tools to help you with List Building, let’s use that topic as a base to work upon.

As you probably know, Email is still very powerful in the direct marketing world. Yes, even though there is Facebook and Twitter and SMS etc, Email is still crushing social media – and I predict it will continue to do so for quite some time yet.

But what has changed with Email marketing this year in 2013?

A lot actually. From Gmail introducing their “tabs” to just people in general becoming more and more ‘busy’ with social networking and other of those types of messaging platforms.

This is how I see the two biggest challenges we’re facing in email marketing heading into 2014.

1) how to get our prospects to hand over their best email address

2) how to keep readers active and buying again and again

I know… I know… these have always been the main objectives but now even more so these days..

First, the key is to get their BEST email address.

I hope you are aware that your customers most probably have their ‘good’ email address they use for important emails  (the one they give to friends, family and other ‘trusted’ people ) –  and then they have their  “spam catcher” email address they NEVER check which they just use to sign up to stuff they don’t really care about or don’t trust.

People are not dumb… they know and despise Spam with a passion and they that signing up to anything is going to mean “more email.. great!”

So there is no way in hell they’re going to give away their best email to any un-trusted source.

So that’s the main thing here.

Become a trusted source.

How do you do that?

It’s simple, but not necessarily easy.

1) To get their best email, you’re going to have to come up with something that will engage them over the long term.

If you’re offering just a one-time download, you can write off the chance of getting their best email. They’ll probably just use their ‘spam catcher’ email to get your product that one time and then it’s ‘sayonara’!

2) Once you have their best email, the next challenge is to keep their interest piqued. This is quite simple compared to the first: Simply, don’t send crap. Email daily, email twice in one day, it’s great IF your emails are awesome. Just be aware that your customers can and will unsubscribe the moment they lose their taste for what you send.

If there is one tip I can give you about what kind of emails to send, it’s to send “entertaining” emails.

Stories, jokes, quotes, facts, stats, etc.. these are things we enjoy reading.

Sales pitch after sales pitch is not. Yeah it’s ok for a few days, but can get boring real fast.

Think about this for a sec… who’s emails do you open up and read first?

1) An email from your best buddy with info about the weekend fishing trip,

or b) a no-named marketer who has been sending you the same email since the day you got on his list, where he’s trying to sell you an ebook on “how to write and sell a kindle book”

I can bet email ‘b’ won’t even last 2 minutes in the inbox as the recipient goes down and clicks delete, delete, delete…

As an email marketer, you must build rapport with your customer.

Become one of their ‘best buds’ who they look out for emails from.

If you can’t, your emails are going to hit the trash box faster than Santa can say “Merry Christmas”.

Would you look out for emails from Santa? I sure would.

Would you have any second thoughts giving your best email to Santa? I wouldn’t.

Have A Product/Information/Service So Awesome That People Would Line Up To Give Your Their Email & Beg You To Send Them Emails About It!

The best marketers are those who help people improve their lives. If you have something people are begging for, your job as an email marketer, or any other type of method you use, will become a lot easier.

All the best for a prosperous 2014!

The 2 Most Dangerous Mindsets That Kill Your Chances Of Succeeding Online

There is a lethal trap most newbies to internet marketing fall into.. and it’s super hard to get out of.And newbies aren’t the only victims.

I get emails and messages from guys and girls around the world telling me they have been struggling for months, sometimes years – and this is the #1 cause of it.

The worst thing is that almost all who have fallen in this trap don’t know that it’s detrimental to their success.

The trap is 2-part; trying to do everything yourself and trying to do it all for free.

I can see why people ‘think’ this is the best route to take when starting an online business… and maybe you still do, but hopefully by the end of this post, you’ll realize you must avoid this habit like the plague.

And I admit I was a little in this state of mind in the beginning of my career too – but thankfully I snapped out of it early.

I remember my first big investment (apart from getting a personal internet business coach) was getting upgraded memberships at safelists.

At first I was all for getting “free traffic”, but it was coming in in dribbles. I wanted to turn on the firehose of traffic – so I invested in pro memberships at a few safelist..

And they weren’t cheap!  Around $197 for 12 months! And I was doubting very much if I would ever see my money again.

But I decided to make it work.

One thing I always tried to do when I first started out was try to make back any money that I spent asap, so I was determined to get my money back – so I used those safelists religously. I mailed as soon as I could (I could mail every 3 days or something like that).

I’m not sure about now, but in 2007 they were actually quite responsive! I could get a dozen or more subscribers every time I mailed to the safelist members.

So did this beat writing articles and making squidoo lenses?

You bet!

There is nothing wrong with Squidoo and Articles, but at that time, doing it all my myself, I could just feel it was the long way to success.

I wanted to “fast track” and see results asap!

Doesn’t everyone?

So if you want faster results too, rethink your “work strategy”.

You might say “Oh I can’t afford to pay for a $200 membership upgrade!

But I say, “Do you want traffic today, or traffic next month?”

You might say “I can’t afford a professional autoresponder.”

But I say, “Can you afford not to invest in one? Are you planning on building a list of 300 or 300,000?”

You might say, “That designer/copywriter/mentor is too expensive… I’ll just keep going at it myself and wish for the best.”

But I say, “Why shoot yourself in the foot? Why not let experts do the job which will give you the best results (ROI)?”

I want you to see that spending money on tools and expert services is an investment.

An investment means that your money will work for you to make you more money.

That’s how you’ve got to see business and your money in it. Money is a tool to make you more money.

If you’re holding on tight to it and not investing it, it will never grow.

Of course, you need to have a long-term plan.

You need to have all the pieces in place for your business to succeed.

For example, you’d be silly to spend hundreds on a website design only to never advertise it.

All these costs can add up, but with a long-term plan in place, and using a rough mathematical formula, you can forecast the results (PROFIT) you’ll be seeing.

That’s the great thing about most marketing campaigns.. especially online ones- You can almost predict the outcome before you start!

So have a think about your business. Are you in it for the long run, ready to dive in and get the lifestyle you want? Or are you being a wussy and just want to dip your toe in and not really see the potential that lies for you?

I hope you’re not a wussy, but if you are I have a cure for you.

To your success,

7 Ways To Get Traffic Without Relying On Google

I love Google for all the free traffic it sends me but trying to please the big G is getting harder and harder with all the updates like Panda, Penguin that seem to be coming out on a weekly basis.

I used to think SEO was easy but I find it’s now becoming a game that is too exhausting because Google seems to be changing it’s algorithms more than the Google boys change their underwear.

The good news is that Google is not the be-all and end-all of website traffic. After all, your goal is to get traffic, not to be on page 1. There are plenty of marketers who can brag about getting to page 1 position #1 but aren’t making any money. So realize that it’s all about traffic and conversions… and Google really is just one out of a million different traffic sources you can use to get traffic to your website.

There probably are more than 1 million ways but here are seven that you can start implementing today to get reliable website traffic.

1. Swap Links With Other Website Owners

This is the most fundamental of all traffic generation methods, but little of it goes on these days.

It takes 5 minutes to send an email to a website owner and another 30 seconds to add a link to your site, but your link will stay there for as long as you and the other guy are in business.

2. Article Submission

I don’t care what people say about article marketing.. it still works and is going to work for a long time yet. If your article is good quality, it will get read and possibly shared by other bloggers and ezine owners and general internet users via social networks.

3. Buy Traffic

Free traffic sources are great, but sometimes it takes a long time to see traffic flow. Buying traffic is how to get instant traffic to your site and if you’ve got a good funnel in place, you can get a positive ROI on it. A lot of marketers don’t look at buying traffic as an investment, just a cost they try to avoid – but why wouldn’t you want to pay $1 per click if you can make $2 back?

Good paid traffic sources include PPC (7search.com, MSN adcenter, Google Adwords) then there are ezine ads, solo ads, banner ads, media buys, classified ads. There is no shortage of paid traffic services online.

4. Video Sharing Sites

Youtube is huge and the ‘how-to’ category is climbing up the ranks of the most searched category on Youtube – now currently in third position. Making a quick screen capture video with Jing or a vlog directly on youtube is easy to and quick. Much faster than typing out an article. Don’t forget that videos get shared around more than anything else online.

5. Ebooks

You’ve probably heard of PDF and document sharing sites like scribd.com and docstoc.com and slideshare, but if not you should definitely add these to your traffic gen arsenal. But not only are free PDF sharing sites good for getting traffic, selling them is also a very powerful tactic. If you include links back to your website and sell the ebooks with master resell rights or PLR, they can get spread around to the far corners of the internet.

6. Forum Links

For highly targeted traffic, participating and becoming known in an online forum in your market can send you lasting website visitors. Make sure you have a link in your signature and you are adding value to the community and posting intelligent comments. If you are really hardcore about your niche, why not start a forum of your own?

7. Affiliates

This method requires you have a product or service that you’re selling, so it’s kind of an advanced method. But the traffic affiliates can send to your site is usually high quality and you as the website owner don’t have to do anything to get it. Of course you will be sharing revenue from the sales they generate in the form of commissions but for auto-pilot traffic, there aren’t too many traffic sources that beats affiliates.

Like I said, there are a million different traffic generation methods and 99% of them don’t have anything to do with Google. So try to get into the mindset that you don’t have to rely on them and no matter what the next Google update is, you won’t even need to batter an eyelid.

I’d love to hear your comments on this and add any more traffic sources that you use.

Stu StirlingTo your success,

Stu Sensei
