“I’m A Nobody, Why Would Anyone Buy My Products!?”
I remember having these exact thoughts when I first started out….
“What makes ME qualified to sell to anyone?”
“Who on earth would ever buy from me? “
Maybe you’re having these same feeling too if you’re just getting started with your internet business. It’s normal to feel this way, but that’s not to say you should.
If you have these feelings and thoughts, you need to try to quickly overcome them. In other words “Get over it!” Those feelings are just going to slow you down. You can overcome them by understanding one main concept.
You don’t need to be the smartest, most successful, experienced person in your niche to start selling, or start a business. You just need to be brave and put yourself (and your products) out there!
Like the old saying goes, “Ready, Fire, Aim!” Just shoot it out and re-asses later. In other words, forget about perfection!
You don’t need to have the most amazing product on the market right from day one to start selling it. Some people are terrified to sell a product because they think the customer will hate it and end up failing.
If that’s the case, sell it anyway and ask the customer what they thought. If it is rubbish, they’ll tell you and you may have to give a refund. But they might love the product. Either way, you will gain valuable feedback.
The faster you fail, the faster you can learn from it and improve.
Every time you fail, the closer you are to succeeding.
I love basketball, the NBA in particular. But not everyone who plays is an All star. Not every player is as dominant and athletic as Lebron James. Not everyone can jump as high hand dunk it as hard as Blake Griffin. There are hundreds of players ranging from mediocre to skilled to exceptional.
But they ALL play the game. They’re all training and ‘selling’ themselves on the court to the fans and to their coaches and team mates.
So take this example or think of any sport or you like and you’ll see it’s made up of a broad array of ‘players’ at different levels.
Business is the same. You just have to decide to play the game. Yes, you’ll start out at the bottom. Yes, you may feel inadequate at first. You may have to “fake it till you make it” a little. I confess, I did. (the only real person you really need to convince though, is you. remember that.)
Now if you’re going the personality marketing route, then there is a certain level of expertise you need to obtain if you want people to buy from you.
You do actually need to know what you’re talking about before you start going public with your content in blog or videos, or whatever. And your product actually needs to do what is says on the box. (i.e. help your customer. )
But the get to that point is easy. You simply study your niche. Study your target market. Observe other marketers. Hang out in forums and join the conversations. Study the niche topics and become an expert in it. It doesn’t take long. Another interesting fact is that every successful marketer or business owner you see is still learning. They’re still honing their skills.
You must too, otherwise you’ll be left in your competitor’s dust. If you want your slice of the customers, you must compete with showing them YOU also know what you’re talking about and your products ALSO solve their problems.
Don’t expect success to come overnight either. Lebron James didn’t get the MVP award his first year. He trains hard to improve. You should too. But you can still be in the game while you’re working on it.
