My Website Was Running Slow. Here’s How I Fixed It.

This blog is running fine now, but for the last few weeks before writing this post, it was running so slow.

I finally got sick of the WordPress White Page of Death and aimed to put an end to the slow page loads.

I went to work and I FINALLY figured out WHY it was running slow. I was surprised at what I found. Watch my video below to find out what I did to make my site run faster. It wasn’t what you think.

Let me know what you think in the comments below. And if you have any more advice or tips to share for speeding up websites, please let the world know!

Avoid Getting Scammed Online – And What To Do If You Get Scammed

No matter if it’s a digital product you’re buying or a physical product, there are scams everywhere you look online.

But before we go into how to avoid being scammed, let’s get clear on what a scam is.

I feel the word ‘scam’ is often misused.

Some people use the word ‘scam’ to mean ‘I paid for the product and although I downloaded it, it didn’t work for me’.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but that is not a scam. That is either the product is faulty e.g. it’s a plugin that doesn’t work, or you just didn’t take the time to use the product and calling it a scam to cover your own laziness because it ‘doesn’t work’ for you. I most cases, information products, courses ‘work’ if you put in the effort to apply it.

A scam is when you pay your hard-earned dollars but you don’t get anything. You get a big fat zero.

Like my buddy in Australia years ago, who bought a camera from Ebay and never received it. He got scammed. They took his money and ran!

scammer_blog

So in this article, I want to talk about how to avoid getting scammed – when you actually pay for something and the seller disappears, never to be seen or heard of again.

Just over the past couple of weeks, I’ve seen a handful of horror stories around the web of people getting ripped off with buying solo ads or paying for sales letters, even coaching, that never gets delivered!

I’m not sure if it’s just a coincidence or scammers are on the rise, but I was surprised to find so many examples in a short time period recently.

What is really distributing is that some of the sellers (scammers) actually have a good track record, i.e. they’ve been around in the scene for quite a long time. Then all of a sudden they turn to the darkside. They take the trusting person’s money and cut off all contact, leaving them with a plate of fresh air and disillusionment, not to mention fury towards the scammer and a sick gut feeling.

It’s very disappointing when I see people getting scammed. I know the sick feeling because I have been scammed in the past too. It’s a feeling I don’t want anyone to have to feel.

The best way I know to avoid a scam is to do your research BEFORE you buy to check out the validity of the seller and product or service being offered.

You have the world’s best search tool, Google, and it’s just a click away. Go over to Google and search for the “product name + scam” or “seller name + scam” and read reviews and other reports that you find. If there are bad reports of scams, then you know to avoid it.

If it’s a seller advertising on a public forum, like the Warrior Forum, read the comments/posts thoroughly. Sometimes the seller will be all genuine for the first little while, but then disappears, and the comments on the 2nd and 3rd pages of the thread will tell you that.

If you do become the victim of a scam, contact the seller as much as you can through as many different communication channels as possible – Email, skype, Facebook, Twitter, phone, etc. If it seems like a dead-end, contact the payment processor whom you paid through (e.g. Paypal) and open a dispute.

Be careful from who you buy from. Online scams do exist so you need to be aware and don’t rush in to buying anything from an unknown seller until you’re 100% sure it’s a genuine deal.

If you’re running a business online selling your products and services, you need to be mindful that your (potential) customers are cautious about who they give their money to. You need to become a trustworthy source.

Make sure you build trust with your prospects as soon as possible.

The easiest way to do that is to be genuine and show the reader that you’re a real human being, and are contactable. Offer guarantees and honor refund requests. I’ve granted refunds only to have them buy a different product from me later down the road.

If your business is a faceless webpage with no contact details, no guarantee and no testimonials, your sales will struggle.

And of course, don’t scam people! Karma is a bitch.

How To Combat Your Blog Content Being Stolen

Auto-blog systems that run spam blog or auto blogs gets it’s content from other sites around the web using their RSS feeds.

If you’ve got a WP blog then chances are that your content is being scraped and used on auto-blog sites a.k.a. spam blogs.

Most of the time, you don’t even know that your content is being used.

When these spam blogs pull content from your sites, they sometimes keep the link back to your site, which is good and bad. Other times they post your content without even crediting or giving you the link you deserve.

I don’t know about you but if someone is going to steal my content and use it on their site, I want something in return. And especially if they don’t use a link back to my site.

The solution to combat content theft this way is to use a plugin like WP FeedAds.

Here’s how WP feed ads works.

It’s a very small, light weight plugin that does a simple job, but it can have big returns for you.

When the auto-blog (I like to call them ‘splogs’; short for “spamblogs”) plugin pulls your content, they pull in the ad that you set in the WP FeedAds section also, resulting in free advertising and free traffic for you.

Pretty cool idea huh? I thought so too.

You can download a copy of the plugin here.

Let me know what you think.

“I’m A Nobody, Why Would Anyone Buy My Products!?”

I remember having these exact thoughts when I first started out….

“What makes ME qualified to sell to anyone?”

“Who on earth would ever buy from me? “

Maybe you’re having these same feeling too if you’re just getting started with your internet business. It’s normal to feel this way, but that’s not to say you should.

sellMorestuff_stuartstirling

If you have these feelings and thoughts, you need to try to quickly overcome them. In other words “Get over it!” Those feelings are just going to slow you down. You can overcome them by understanding one main concept.

You don’t need to be the smartest, most successful, experienced person in your niche to start selling, or start a business. You just need to be brave and put yourself (and your products) out there!

Like the old saying goes, “Ready, Fire, Aim!” Just shoot it out and re-asses later. In other words, forget about perfection!

You don’t need to have the most amazing product on the market right from day one to start selling it. Some people are terrified to sell a product because they think the customer will hate it and end up failing.

If that’s the case, sell it anyway and ask the customer what they thought. If it is rubbish, they’ll tell you and you may have to give a refund. But they might love the product. Either way, you will gain valuable feedback.

The faster you fail, the faster you can learn from it and improve.

Every time you fail, the closer you are to succeeding.

I love basketball, the NBA in particular. But not everyone who plays is an All star. Not every player is as dominant and athletic as Lebron James. Not everyone can jump as high hand dunk it as hard as Blake Griffin. There are hundreds of players ranging from mediocre to skilled to exceptional.

But they ALL play the game. They’re all training and ‘selling’ themselves on the court to the fans and to their coaches and team mates.

So take this example or think of any sport or you like and you’ll see it’s made up of a broad array of ‘players’ at different levels.

Business is the same. You just have to decide to play the game. Yes, you’ll start out at the bottom. Yes, you may feel inadequate at first. You may have to “fake it till you make it” a little. I confess, I did. (the only real person you really need to convince though, is you. remember that.)

Now if you’re going the personality marketing route, then there is a certain level of expertise you need to obtain if you want people to buy from you.

You do actually need to know what you’re talking about before you start going public with your content in blog or videos, or whatever. And your product actually needs to do what is says on the box. (i.e. help your customer. )

But the get to that point is easy. You simply study your niche. Study your target market. Observe other marketers. Hang out in forums and join the conversations. Study the niche topics and become an expert in it. It doesn’t take long. Another interesting fact is that every successful marketer or business owner you see is still learning. They’re still honing their skills.

You must too, otherwise you’ll be left in your competitor’s dust. If you want your slice of the customers, you must compete with showing them YOU also know what you’re talking about and your products ALSO solve their problems.

Don’t expect success to come overnight either. Lebron James didn’t get the MVP award his first year. He trains hard to improve. You should too. But you can still be in the game while you’re working on it.

So if you’re reading this and are still on the fence about putting your product or service out there, just do it. Be brave and let it fly. See what happens. What’s the worst that could happen?

How To Start An Affiliate Marketing Business In One Day

… and I should add, even if it’s your first day online, and only have $50 or less to spend.

And I’m not talking about getting in a “home business” program. They’re fine if you want to get started in the “home business” niche…but…

I want to give you a formula you can use for ANY niche you decide to enter into.

Follow the steps below and you’ll feel like this guy at the end of the day…

IRock-StuartStirling

I was recently asked by a customers who is trying to promote a weight loss product – acai berries to be exact.

She asked me the best ways to promote her affiliate link without buying ads, or without using article marketing because article directories won’t allow any articles that promote or talk about acai berries!

I gave my advice in a couple of steps….

1.  If article marketing is out, get traffic with Youtube videos.  Create videos with helpful content about acai berries and weight loss and upload them, with your titles containing keywords.

2. Put a link in the description to a lead generation page (squeeze page). When they land on your squeeze page, offer them a free “giveaway” product if they optin to your email list (autoresponder). For example, a free teaser report about the benefits or dangers of acai berries.

The other option, and this is much more effective for cold traffic (i.e. traffic from Youtube) is to make the offer on your squeeze page “blind copy”.

Blind copy means you don’t actually let the reader know that you’re talking about acai berries – You hide the fact that it’s anything to do with acai berries and just refer to it as a “weight loss super food”, or something along those lines. The main reason for using blind copy is to muster up some curiosity in their mind so the reader can’t help but to opt-in in to learn more.

3. Another way to drive traffic for free would be by posting in weight loss or mummy, chat forums and social media sites (groups).. and putting your link in your forum signature file! Again you want to send people to your squeeze page so you build your email list. Your email list is your most important asset as an internet marketer. With a list, you can follow-up with them at any time and use the emails to build that all-important relationship.

So that’s the ‘what to do’….

The ‘how to do it’ is explained in this next part.

This involves actually going out and doing work. However, none of these tasks are overly technical or require a phd in computer science. Admittedly, these are the bare essentials, but they’re enough to get you started running a proper, reliable affiliate marketing business.

  1. Write a 5~10 page report in Word about acai berries and how they help you burn fat.
  2. Turn your report into a PDF using Doc2pdf.net
  3. Get an ecover for it on fiverr.com
  4. Use a site like 1MinuteSites.com to create your landing pages (squeeze pages etc),
  5. Get an autoresponder (email management software) like Aweber or Pure Leverage so you can start your list building
  6. Focus on the traffic methods I explained above to promote and give away the free report.

That there is a quick outline of a basic, but complete affiliate marketing business model. You could literally get this kind of business up and running in one day and for less than $50.

Internet marketing doesn’t need to be complex. You just need the right pieces in place. I’ve listed the bare essentials of how to set up a list building system and two examples of how to promote  for free, apart from article marketing.
