8 Things NOT To Do In 2018

How’s your 2018 treating you so far? We’re nearly 2 weeks in! I hope you’re chipping away at your goals for this year!

Last week, I published 8 things to DO in 2018 to crush your competitors.

To follow up, here are 8 things you SHOULD NOT DO in 2018 that will leave you behind and failing badly! So let’s dig right in.

  1. Do Not Let Negativity Creep Into Your Mind From…

…your own thinking nor from other people!

You can become your own worst enemy when negativity creeps into your mind and sometimes it creeps in unannounced. You can be going along happy in what you are doing then all of a sudden BAM! Niggling doubts from the voice inside your head telling you “it’s all a waste of time” or “you’re never going to achieve your goals” creep in and can kill your progress.

You’ve got to recognize that it’s just your brain. Also know that there is another side of you that uplifts you and encourages you. If you decide, you can shut the negative voices out and only listen to the positive. It’s hard at first but it’s a very powerful ability and skill that you need as an entrepreneur.

If you surround yourself with negative people then it’s inevitable that some negativity will rub off and this can seriously affect your progress. This is true offline as well as online. Try to become involved with positive thinking people and just like negativity, positivity will rub off too.

  2. Do Not Fall For Fakes And Scamsters

Research who you’re about to hand over money to before you do it. It seems like every corner we turn, whether it’s online or off, there is always someone willing to take our hard earned cash in return for nothing.

Whilst most digital product sellers will have a refund period it is worth checking their credentials before purchasing and don’t be taken in by online reviews. Unless the site you are reading the review is a recognised authority site done by someone you know and trust, then take reviews with a pinch of salt.

A lot of “reviews” are just a thinly disguised cover to sell you stuff so the affiliate can make a sale and earn a commission. Unless you know and trust who you are buying from spend a little time researching them.

  3. Do Not Buy Anything You Can Not Use in The Next 30 Days

Shiny object syndrome is real! Don’t convince yourself that you need to buy something if you are not going to use it.

How many things have you bought online that are just sitting on your hard drive in places you forgot exist? Me too!

We all struggle with buying things we don’t really need. I blame the marketers for being too good at what they do! It all comes back to the search for the push button solution that is proving harder to find than the Holy Grail.

The truth is that these shiny objects don’t really solve all your problems. They might give you a shortcut but underneath it all, a lot of blood, sweat and tears is needed to build a long-term business online.

Before you buy something next, ask yourself, ‘Can I I use this immediately (or 30 days) in my business?’ If the answer is no, then move along and get back to work. I say “in the next 30 days”, but you could extend that period of time to infinity. If you’re not going to use it, you don’t need it.

  4. Do Not Try to Do Everything Yourself

Places like Fiverr give you great deals for jobs that experts are doing. Doing everything yourself will slow you down and the final product probably won’t be as good as if an expert did it.

Personally I suck at graphics and having great graphics on your website as opposed to ones you’ve tried to create yourself can make or break your site. Unless you are good with graphics you too might want to outsource the gig.

The other big benefit is that it frees up your time when you outsource tasks. The internet marketing game is really one big race to see how much money everyone can make – so the faster you can get traffic, release products, etc. the faster you can make money. Needless to say, if you’re tackling everything on your own, you’ll be moving slowly.

  5. Do Not Be A Consumer Only – You Must Produce Too!

Are you a ‘spend spend spend’ type of person? I feel your pain, it is too easy to click the ‘Buy Now’ button but you need to get your buy buttons out there yourself if you want to see some of that money coming in, instead of always going out!

Whether it’s your own product that you create from scratch, or some PLR that you have rights to, you simply have to be selling instead of being sold to.

It’s a mind-shift and it takes a leap of faith and courage to start asking for people’s money. Challenge yourself this year to make the move from ‘buyer’ to ‘seller’.

  6. Do Not Compare Yourself To Others

I’m not talking in the locker room here. 🙂

Don’t get hung up on what other people are doing and concentrate on number one. I don’t think we need to get into self improvement strategies here but if you start worrying about what other people are doing then those negative thoughts we discussed in number one will consume you. Just remember, everyone has to start at the bottom and work their little A off to get to the top.

All the vacations, nice houses, cars and such you see your friends and peers doing on Facebook (real or not) didn’t come for them overnight. Don’t get down on yourself if you don’t have what they have.

Compare yourself to yourself last year. If you’re moving forward and building your business, even slowly, that’s something to be happy about.

  7. Do Not Get Sucked Into Facebook News Feed

Are you addicted to Facebook?  Here’s how to take control of your time again.

Install Google Chrome browser and then install the ‘Kill News Feed’ extension

Some people spend all day on social media and that’s great if you don’t need to be somewhere else. Somewhere like making some money!

  8. Do Not Expect Opportunities To Fall Into Your Lap

Basically, you can be one of two types of person. A “go-getter”? Or are you just going where ever life takes you?

If you’re the latter, and you hope that ‘fate’ will somehow deliver the perfect life to you, then that is very wishful thinking and there is no guarantee that the dream lifestyle will happen.

If you don’t have a plan and don’t follow that plan, you’ll become a part in someone else’s plan. It’s as simple as that! You need to be proactive and MAKE THINGS HAPPEN the way you want!

Waiting for that email to drop into your inbox with a link that brings you untold riches will never happen! Or waiting for some big business owner to offer you a JV partnership is not going to happen. You have to go out and seek those opportunities.

Make 2018 YOUR YEAR! Plan ahead the path you want to take and don’t get distracted by all those things that usually stops you from progressing.

Your mate,

Stuart Stirling
